The Bulldogs earned 108 points in the preseason balloting, which was held by the head coaches at the various 13-member league institutions. Last year, Ferris was tabbed to finish tied for sixth place with a 81-points total and went on to register the program's best season in a decade with an 8-3 overall mark and a third-place effort (7-3) in league action.

"We're excited for the year to begin and our goal at Ferris is to be a contender," said FSU head coach Jeff Pierce. "We took a good step in the right direction last year, but its always a challenge and you have to be ready to go each and every Saturday."

Two-time defending national champion Grand Valley State was selected as the preseason favorites to capture the conference title as the Lakers earned 144 points and picked up 12 of the 13 first-place votes. Northwood was second with 120 points and one first-place vote while Saginaw Valley State recorded 115 points in finishing third overall. Wayne State accumulated a fifth-place 96 points to finish nine points in front of Michigan Tech's sixth-place total of 87 points in the upper half of the league's preseason rankings. The league's 13 head coaches participated in the balloting, but weren't allowed to vote for their teams. The first-place team on each ballot received 12 points while the second attained 11 points, etc.

The Bulldogs earned preseason recognition this summer as the nation's 18th-ranked squad in the 2007 Lindy's College Football Preview Division II Preseason Top 25 Poll. Expectations are high after Ferris State concluded the 2006 campaign at 8-3-0 overall, which represented the program's most single-season victories since 1996. The Bulldogs also finished the year ranked 17th in Don Hansen's Football Gazette's final Division II Top 40 poll and 22nd nationally in D2Football.com' final Top 25 poll.

Ferris will officially kickoff its 99th year of varsity competition Saturday, Sept. 1, versus the Kentucky State University Thorobreds in a 7 p.m. (EDT) non-conference tilt at Top Taggart Field.

Along with the season opener, the 11-game regular-season schedule features six home contests. Ferris' conference opener is Saturday, Sept. 8, against the Mercyhurst Lakers at Top Taggart Field with opening kickoff slated for 7 p.m. (EDT).

Tickets for all home games can be purchased by contacting the FSU Athletics Ticket Office at (231) 591-2888 or online at www.starticketsplus.com.
