Ferris' three-week training camp period will not only feature practices and scrimmages, but also meetings, lifting, conditioning, testing and various orientation sessions. Practices will be held both on the FSU practice fields along with selected ones at Top Taggart Field.

FSU's initial preseason scrimmage is set for Saturday, Aug. 18, at 9:30 a.m. (EDT). The final scrimmage will be held following FSU's annual media/photo day activities on Friday, Aug. 24. The media/photo day will take place at 1 p.m. (EDT) with the scrimmage beginning at 5 p.m. (EDT).

Ferris State was selected to place fourth in the 2007 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Football Coaches Preseason Poll. Last year, Ferris registered the program's best season in a decade with an 8-3 overall mark and a third-place effort (7-3) in league action.

"We're excited for the year to begin and our goal at Ferris is to be a contender," said FSU head coach Jeff Pierce. "We took a good step in the right direction last year, but its always a challenge and you have to be ready to go each and every Saturday."

The Bulldogs earned preseason recognition this summer as the nation's 18th-ranked squad in the 2007 Lindy's College Football Preview Division II Preseason Top 25 Poll. Expectations are high after Ferris State concluded the 2006 campaign at 8-3-0 overall, which represented the program's most single-season victories since 1996. The Bulldogs also finished the year ranked 17th in Don Hansen's Football Gazette's final Division II Top 40 poll and 22nd nationally in D2Football.com' final Top 25 poll.

Ferris will officially kickoff its 99th year of varsity competition Saturday, Sept. 1, versus the Kentucky State University Thorobreds in a 7 p.m. (EDT) non-conference tilt at Top Taggart Field.

Along with the season opener, the 11-game regular-season schedule features six home contests. Ferris' conference opener is Saturday, Sept. 8, against the Mercyhurst Lakers at Top Taggart Field with opening kickoff slated for 7 p.m. (EDT).
