Former Ferris State University standout Carlton Brewster has made quite a favorable first impression in his NFL Europa (formerly NFL Europe) debut this spring as a member of the Berlin (Germany) Thunder as the Bulldog All-American is presently the league's top receiver.
Brewster, who played at Ferris State from 2002-05, currently leads NFL Europa in receptions (14) and receiving yards (198) through two contests to date. The wideout is averaging 14.1 yards per catch for Berlin and ranks fourth among the NFL Europa statistical leaders in all-purpose yardage (198 yds.). He made his NFL Europa debut on April 14 against the Rhein Fire and caught seven passes for 95 yards in a 15-3 victory. In his second game, Brewster was on the receiving end of seven passes for 103 yards in a 16-7 home loss to the Hamburg Sea Devils last Sunday (April 22).
Brewster had his NFL Europa diary recently published on the Packers' website. He wears jersey #81 for the Berlin Thunder and jersey #13 for Green Bay Packers.
Brewster was assigned to the Thunder by the National Football League's (NFL) Green Bay Packers after having spent the entire 2006 season on the team's practice squad. The 5-11, 180-pound receiver was originally signed by the Cleveland Browns on May 4, 2006, before being traded to Green Bay on Aug. 22. He was re-signed to Green Bay's practice squad on Oct. 18 after being released by the Packers in the final preseason cutdown prior to the start of the 2006 campaign.
A 2005 American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) All-America Team member and an Associated Press (AP) Little All-America Second-Team selection, Brewster concluded his four-year Bulldog career ranking second among Ferris' all-time receiving leaders with 3,184 career receiving yards and 25 TD’s on 234 receptions in 43 outings. He finished in fifth place on the GLIAC's career receiving yardage leaders list with 2,923 yards on 213 grabs in conference games only. He also is third among the Bulldogs' career leaders chart in kickoff returns (1,197 yds.), fourth in punt returns (588 yds.), fifth in all-purpose yards (5,029 yds.), and eighth in scoring (164 pts.).
