Several Bulldogs Volunteer Their Time As Part of March's Reading Month

Seven members of the 2007 Ferris State University football team recently volunteered their time to spend reading to pre-school children at the Mecosta-Osceola Career Center in Big Rapids, Mich.

The month of March was designated as reading month where kids are encouraged to read.

Ferris State football student-athlete Jacob Moreno reads to pre-school kids at the Mecosta-Osceola Career Center.

Those FSU football team members participating in the reading event were Jacob Moreno, Jake Visser, Bill Bourdlais, John Rasch, Patrick Wells, Kyle Walker, and Joe Morrow. All spent about a hour reading books to children in the pre-school classes of Mrs. Bonnie Huey and Mrs. Nicki Cassidy.

"I enjoyed the time we spent interacting with the kids," said Bill Bourdlais. "Reading is so vital in today's society. There's also was a sense of self worth in knowing that we (football student-athletes) hopefully have created a fun environment where children enjoy reading. I believe we put smiles on their faces as they did ours. For me, it was a worthwhile experience," added Bourdlais.

The event was organized by Bulldog assistant coach and recruiting coordinator Ken Conlin.
