Senior Earns Football Gazette Distinction In All-Purpose Category

Ferris State University senior receiver Robert Miller (Carson, Calif.) has been chosen as one of this week's (Sept. 26) Don Hansen's Football Gazette National Players of the Week after his all-purpose performance in last Saturday's (Sept. 22) thrilling 44-41 Bulldog victory over Hillsdale at Top Taggart Field in Big Rapids, Mich.

Robert Miller The 5-8 Miller was among 11 NCAA Division II players to earn national recognition this week and one of only two selected in the all-purpose category along with Weston Dressler of North Dakota State University.

Miller had a productive all-around game against the Chargers in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) action with 127 rushing yards, 31 receiving yards and 60 return yards. He carried the ball 17 times for 127 yards and two scores while adding 31 receiving yards on a team-best two catches. Miller also returned three kickoffs for 60 total yards, tallied 218 all-purpose yards and averaged 7.5 yards per rush. He carried the ball twice for 19 yards on FSU’s final six-play drive, which set up a game-winning 41-yard field goal by junior kicker Jim Yates (Goshen, Ind.) with only three seconds left to play.

Last season (2006), Miller attained All-GLIAC Second Team laurels after leading the Bulldogs in both rushing and receiving. He compiled a squad-best 531 rushing yards on 82 carries with three touchdowns in his first season with the Bulldogs. In addition, Miller also had a team-high 34 receptions for 399 yards and three more touchdowns. He tallied 1,187 all-purpose yards last year while averaging 107.9 yards per contest.

Presently, Miller ranks as the Bulldogs' second-leading rusher with 249 yards on 30 carries (8.3 avg.) to date this campaign. His 17 catches for 213 yards (12.5 ypc.) both are team-best totals this campaign. He's also returned 13 kickoffs for 278 yards (21.4 avg.) and three punts for 10 yards (3.3 avg.) to date this season. Currently, his 187.5 all-purpose yards per game average is the nation's 11th-highest figure this campaign.

Miller is the second Bulldog player to receive National Player of the Week honors this year as senior quarterback C.J. Van Wieren (Holland/West Ottawa) picked up the D2football.com Co-National Offensive Player of the Week honor for the performance in FSU's 42-19 season-opening victory over Kentucky State (Sept. 1) at Top Taggart Field.

The Bulldogs continue their two-game homestand by hosting the Northern Michigan Wildcats in the school's Eighth Annual Hall of Fame Game Saturday (Sept. 29) afternoon with kickoff set for 2 p.m. (EDT) at Top Taggart Field. This year's hall of fame inductees will be introduced in a special halftime ceremony.
