Special Activities Planned For FSU's Five Home Outings This Campaign

100th Season Logo The Ferris State University football team will embark on its 100th campaign this fall and a variety of special activities are planned to commemorate the 100th season of Bulldog football.

FSU will officially kickoff the historical campaign this Saturday (Aug. 30) against the Tiffin (Ohio) Dragons in a 2:30 p.m. (EDT) non-conference contest at Tiffin, Ohio. The Bulldogs, who will play an 11-game regular-season schedule, then open Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) action the following Saturday, Sept. 6, on the road at 1 p.m. (EDT) versus the Ashland Eagles in Ashland, Ohio.

Ferris will play five home games this fall and several game day promotions will be held in conjunction with each contest. FSU's home opener is slated for Saturday, Sept. 13, against the Findlay Oilers with kickoff set for 7 p.m. (EDT) at FSU's Top Taggart Field in Big Rapids, Mich. The initial home game is being billed as FSU's Community, Fireworks and Health Care Night with the traditional fireworks display taking place following the contest. Additionally, a Blues & BBQ pregame party will also take place featuring blues’ artist Big Daddy Fox and the Krewe at the stadium.

FSU's second home game against Northern Michigan (Sept. 27) will represent the school's ninth-annual Hall of Fame Day outing. Homecoming is set for Oct. 18 when the Bulldogs host Wayne State and a 40th Reunion Day for the school’s 1968 undefeated team is planned in conjunction with the Northwood game (Oct. 25). Senior Day activities will take place Nov. 8 during FSU's regular-season home finale against Saginaw Valley State.

More information on activities surrounding Bulldog home games this fall will be announced throughout the season as additional details become available.

The 2008 campaign represents the Bulldogs’ 100th season of varsity competition. The program actually began in 1900, but no football was played in 1908-09, 1917-18, 1932 and from 1942-45 for various reasons. Additionally, no scores are available from either the 1912 or 1916 seasons. Ferris has posted an all-time record of 360-403-40 (.473) to date heading into the 2008 campaign.

"This will be an exciting season for our players and the fans," said 14th-year FSU head coach Jeff Pierce. "When you think back and realize how many former student-athletes have been a part of this program over 100 years, it really makes this a memorable year for everyone involved.

"We're ready to kickoff the year and are optimistic about what we will be able to accomplish this season."

Additionally, the Bulldogs will play their home games on a newly-installed Mondo Ecofill artificial playing surface. The turf replacement was part of a $1 million renovation at the stadium. Top Taggart Field will be the first stadium in Michigan to have an Ecofill playing surface.

Tickets for all FSU home games this fall will be available at the gate. All general admission seats are $7 for adults with students (K-12), faculty/staff and senior citizen rates set for $5 per contest. Ferris State students will be admitted free with their student identification cards. For more information regarding ticket sales, please contact the FSU Athletics Ticket Office at (231) 591-2888.
