Ferris State Skater Records Three Points In A CCHA Two-Game Series Sweep

The Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) has named Evan Case (Grosse Pointe Woods) as its Defensive Player of the Week after the junior defenseman helped lead the Ferris State University men's ice hockey team to a CCHA home-and-home series sweep of Western Michigan this past weekend (Nov. 30-Dec. 1). The announcement was made by the league office today (Dec. 3).

Case tallied his first two goals of the 2007-08 season in Friday's (Nov. 30) 4-0 home triumph over Western Michigan. He also received the Perani Cup's First Star of the Game and registered seven shots in the league contest. Case then followed up with an assist and blocked a shot in Saturday's (Dec. 1) 3-2 road win at WMU. The honor represents the first time in which Case has been recognized by the CCHA during his FSU career.

Case concluded the two-game series with a plus one effiency rating in each game and played an integral role in helping the Bulldogs operate at 87.5% (7-8) on the penalty kill.

This season in 14 outings, Case currently ranks tied for fourth place among the team's points leaders with a career single-season high seven on two goals with five assists. The 6-1, 186-pound defender is plus three on the season to go with a power-play marker and has been assessed nine penalties for 18 minutes. He has posted four points (2-2=4) in as many appearances to date.

For his career, Case has accumulated 11 points on three goals and eight assists in 46 contests. He currently boasts a +15 rating and has amassed 52 minutes on 26 penalties. A season ago, Case produced four points with a goal and three assists in 28 games while finishing with a squad-best +12 rating. He was the 2006-07 team recipient of the Steve Banonis Most Improved Player Award and also the Plus/Minus Award.

The selection of Case marks the second time this season in which a Ferris State skater has garnered weekly CCHA Player of the Week honors. Junior Mitch O'Keefe (Almonte, Ontario) was tabbed as the CCHA's Goaltender of the Week earlier this campaing (Oct. 29).

Ferris State, which is currently 7-6-1 overall and 6-4-0 (12 points) in the CCHA, takes on the nationally-ranked Michigan State Spartans this weekend (Dec. 7-8) in a CCHA home-and-home series. The Bulldogs host Michigan State this Friday (Dec. 7) in a 7:05 p.m. (EST) contest at FSU's Ewigleben Ice Arena in Big Rapids, Mich., before visiting the Spartans Saturday (Dec. 8) in the series finale. A 7:05 p.m. (EST) start time is scheduled at MSU's Munn Ice Arena in East Lansing, Mich., and the game will be televised live on Comcast Local. The two-game set marks the only regular-season meetings between the two in-state schools for the 2007-08 season.
