Ferris State Sophomore Tallies A Hat Trick In Series Finale Win At Western Michigan

Mike Embach
The Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) has tabbed Ferris State University's Mike Embach (Orland Park, Ill.) as its Offensive Player of the Week Award recipient after the sophomore left wing registered a combined four goals, including his first collegiate hat trick, in a league home-and-home series split with Western Michigan this past weekend (Jan. 9-10). The announcement was made today (Jan. 12) by the CCHA.

Embach produced his first career hat trick by scoring three goals in Ferris State's 4-2 victory at Western Michigan last Saturday (Jan. 10), which included the game winner. The 5-10, 182-pound forward accounted for the Bulldogs' first three lamplighters of the contest with two coming on the power play. For his performance, Embach was selected the Perani Cup's First Star of the Game.

The FSU skater also was responsible for the Bulldogs' lone tally in Friday's (Jan. 9) 2-1 home loss to the Broncos with a third-period score and was chosen as the game's third star as a result of his efforts.

Embach currently ranks tied for 10th place among the team's points leaders with nine points (7-2=9) in 20 outings this season. He has a +2 efficiency rating with four power-play goals and two game-winning tallies. Embach has notched at least a point in seven contests this campaign, which includes a current three-game point streak with five (5-0=5) combined points.

For his career, Embach has compiled 16 points with eight goals and assists apiece in 45 contests. He currently has a +1 efficiency rating while being assessed 50 minutes on 25 penalties. The Bulldog forward has presently registered four power-play goals and two game-winning markers during his two-year career.

Embach represents the third Ferris State skater this campaign to receive weekly league recognition. Sophomore Zach Redmond (Traverse City) was chosen as the CCHA's Defenseman of the Week earlier this season (Oct. 27) and freshman defenseman Chad Billins (Marysville) garnered league Rookie of the Week laurels (Dec. 15).

Ferris State, which is 10-10-4 overall and 7-7-2-0 (16 points) in the CCHA to date, will begin a four-game CCHA homestand over the next three weeks, starting this weekend (Jan. 16-17) with a two-game series versus the nationally-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes at FSU's Ewigleben Ice Arena in Big Rapids, Mich. A 7:05 p.m. (EST) opening faceoff is scheduled for the opener this Friday (Jan. 16) while Saturday's (Jan. 17) rematch will get underway at 5:05 p.m. (EST). Tickets may be purchased by contacting the Ferris State Athletics Ticket Office at (231) 591-2888.
