The winning ways for nationally-ranked Ohio State continued as the 14th-rated Buckeyes tallied the game's final five scores to register a decisive 6-2 come-from-behind victory over the Ferris State men's ice hockey team Friday (Jan. 16) night in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) weekend series opener between the two teams at FSU's Ewigleben Ice Arena in Big Rapids, Mich.

The win represented Ohio State's 11th straight as the Buckeyes haven't tasted defeat since Nov. 21 with a 3-1 league loss at Northern Michigan.

With the setback, Ferris State drops to 10-11-4 overall and 7-8-2-0 in the CCHA while Ohio State runs its overall record to 16-6-1 overall and 9-5-1-1 in league action to date this season.

A goal by Ferris State freshman left wing Jordie Johnston (Rosetown, Saskatchewan) at 2:32 into the game gave the host Bulldogs a 1-0 lead. Johnston tallied his second goal of the season after stealing the puck in the OSU zone on the left side. Johnston proceeded to skate the puck in from the end side of the front of the crease to the other and deke Buckeye goaltender Dustin Carlson for the lamplighter. Ohio State answered just minutes later to tie the game at 1-1 on a Peter Boyd goal at 5:45 before the Bulldogs snapped the tie at the 9:35 mark when sophomore defenseman Zach Redmond's (Traverse City) blast from high above the left circle wound up in the back of the OSU net to give FSU a 2-1 advantage. Senior left wing Brendan Connolly (Canmore, Alberta) picked up an assist on Redmond's second tally of the season.

Ohio State would erase the one-goal deficit late in the opening period on Corey Elkins' power-play marker at 14:49 and then with 1:34 left in the frame, C.J. Severyn scored for the visitors.

Following a combined five-goal output in the first 20 minutes, the second period was a quite one from an offensive standpoint as OSU's Hunter Bishop scored the frame's lone goal just 2:19 into the stanza as the Buckeyes went up 4-2 after two periods.

Ohio State, which was outshot 32-30 by Ferris State, tacked on two more scores early in the third period with Ian Boots and John Albert tallying even-strength goals at 1:58 and 3:02, respectively.

Sophomore Pat Nagle (Bloomfield), who received the starting nod for Ferris State between the posts, took the loss with 19 stops in 41:54 of action. Nagle's record is now 6-8-2 this campaign as a result of the loss. Freshman goaltender Taylor Nelson (Regina, Saskatchewan) spelled Nagle the final 18:02 of the contest and finished with five saves. Dustin Carlson (14-3-0) was the winning goaltender for Ohio State and concluded the night with a 30-save performance.

The win by Ohio State ends a six-game losing skid to the Bulldogs in the all-time series and a series four-game Ferris home winning streak.
