Sophomore Zach Redmond (Traverse City) of the Ferris State University men's ice hockey team has attained honorable mention honors on the 2008-09 Central Collegiate Hockey Association Preseason All-Conference Team as selected by the league's 12 head coaches. The announcement was released during Tuesday's (Sept. 30) CCHA Media Day at Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids, Mich.

Redmond was six individuals to receive honorable mention laurels and was Ferris State's lone representative.

A 2007-08 CCHA All-Rookie Team Honorable Mention pick, Redmond paced all Bulldog defensemen in scoring with 19 points on six goals and 13 assists in 37 outings. The 2007-08 FSU Rookie of the Year Award winner placed sixth in team scoring and produced the second highest points total among the Bulldogs' freshmen skaters a season ago.

Redmond also tied for fourth place on the squad with three multiple-point game performances while his plus 14 efficiency rating represented a tie for second best on the squad. He played an integral role in helping Ferris State register an 18-16-5 overall record last season, which included a fifth-place 12-12-4 league mark (28 points).

The 6-1, 195-pound defenseman was the third player to be selected in the final round of the 2008 National Hockey League's (NHL) Entry Draft as the Atlanta Thrashers selected him with the 184th overall pick. The 2008-09 FSU assistant captain was Ferris State's featured player on Inside College Hockey.com's (INCH) "A to Z 2008-09 Preview".

Redmond and his Ferris State teammates will take to the ice for the first time in the 2008-09 season this Sunday (Oct. 5) when the Bulldogs host the University of Windsor (Ontario) in a matinee exhibition contest at FSU's Ewigleben Ice Arena in Big Rapids, Mich. Opening faceoff is set for 2:05 p.m. (EDT) and the "Skate With The Bulldogs" will follow upon the game's conclusion.
