FSU To Face GLIAC Tourney Champion Ashland In Great Lakes Regional

NCAA Logo The Ferris State women's volleyball team received its 14th all-time NCAA Division II National Tournament berth in an announcement made late Sunday (Nov. 5) night by the national women's volleyball committee.

The Bulldogs, who will be making their third consecutive tournament appearance, will face Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament Champion Ashland in Thursday's (Nov. 9) quarterfinal round of the NCAA-II Great Lakes Regional Tournament in Hillsdale College's Jesse Philips Arena at Hillsdale, Mich. Match time is set for 5 p.m. (EST). The committee selected Hillsdale as the host site for the eight-team, single-elimination regional.

FSU is seeded fourth overall in the field while AU is seeded fifth. Thursday's other quarterfinal round matches include third-seeded Southern Illinois-Edwardsville against sixth-seeded Michigan Tech at 12 p.m. (EST), second-seeded Grand Valley State facing seventh-seeded Lewis (Ill.) in a 2:30 p.m. (EST) match and top-seeded Hillsdale hosting eighth-seeded West Virginia State beginning at 7:30 p.m. (EST). The tournament semifinals will be held Friday (Nov. 10) at 5 p.m. (EST) and 7:30 p.m. (EST), respectively, with the regional final set for Saturday (Nov. 11) at 4 p.m. (EST).

The winner of Saturday's regional championship match will advance to the 26th annual NCAA-II Elite Eight set to be held Thursday-Saturday, Nov. 16-18, and hosted by the University of West Florida in Pensacola, Fla.

Tickets for the 2006 NCAA Great Lakes Regional will be on sale at the doors of Jesse Philips Arena, beginning at 11 a.m. (EST) on Thursday. Pricing for the entire Thursday session is $10. Prices for individual matches are set at $5 for adults, $3 for seniors and students with a valid ID and $2 for children 10 and under. The Bulldogs, who recorded a 3-1 regular-season win (9/15) this year over the Eagles at Ashland, Ohio, are presently 21-8 overall and placed second in the GLIAC North Division with a 12-6 league mark this campaign. AU is presently 20-9 overall this season following its 3-1 triumph over Grand Valley State in the GLIAC Tournament Championship match on Saturday (Nov. 4) at Hillsdale. Ferris suffered a 3-0 setback to GVSU Friday (Nov. 3) in the GLIAC Tourney Semifinals hosted in Jesse Philips Arena.

Last season, the Bulldogs fell to Southern Illinois-Edwardsville 3-0 in the regional quarterfinals (11/17/05) held inside Grand Valley State's Fieldhouse Arena at Allendale, Mich. FSU has dropped its opening match of the regional event in each of its last four appearances to date.
