Senior Candice Marut and the Bulldogs open their 2008 season this Thursday evening hosting Aquinas.
The Ferris State University Athletics Department's fourth annual “Back To School” night will be held this Thursday, Aug. 28, in conjunction with the Bulldog women's volleyball 2008 season opener against the Aquinas Saints at FSU's Ewigleben Sports Arena in Big Rapids, Mich.

The non-conference match is scheduled for a 7 p.m. (EDT) start time and those fans attending can earn free admission by providing a new school supply, which will then be distributed by the department for use in local elementary classrooms. Items should be in new package condition and can include such materials as crayons, construction paper, markers, glue, notebooks and pencils. All local students, parents and community members are invited and encouraged to attend the Bulldog Athletics Department's first home event of the season.

In support of the "Back To School" supplies drive, the FSU Copy Center is donating two boxes of copy paper to be donated to a local school in need.

Following the season-opening match, the Bulldogs will host the annual Ferris State Invitational this weekend (Aug. 29-30) with action slated to take place at the 600-seat Ewigleben Sports Arena and on the two courts inside Jim Wink Arena. Match times for this Friday's (Aug. 29) play are scheduled for 11 a.m. (EDT), 2 p.m., and 5 p.m. This Saturday's (Aug. 30) action will feature starting times of 9:30 a.m. (EDT), 12 p.m., and 2:30 p.m. All four Ferris State matches will take place inside the Ewigleben Sports Arena.

The 2008 Ferris State Invite field consists of Hillsdale, Indiana (Pa.), Mercyhurst, Minnesota Duluth, Saginaw Valley State, Urbana (Ohio), and Wheeling Jesuit (W.Va.) along with host Ferris State. All teams will play a total of four matches during the two-day tournamment with two contests per day. Admission is $5 per person per day. Faculty/staff ticket prices are $4 while students in grades K-12 are $3. FSU students will be admitted free of charge.

Ferris State, under 13th-year head coach Tia Brandel-Wilhelm, posted a 20-10 overall mark last season with a third-place 12-6 mark in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's (GLIAC) North Division. The Bulldogs, which registered the program's 10th consecutive winning campaign in 2007, also made their 10th consecutive league tourney appearance a season ago.
