Ferris State opened its 2008 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) women's volleyball schedule Friday (Sept. 12) evening and came out on the short end of a 3-1 league road loss (25-19, 21-25, 14-25, 17-25) to Northwood at the Bennett Sports Center in Midland, Mich.

The Bulldogs (6-4, 0-1 GLIAC) hit .122 for the match while the host Timberwolves (4-5, 1-0 GLIAC) registered a .221 hitting percentage.

Ferris State started the match strong by winning the first set (25-19) as the visitors connected on an impressive .360 of their attacks. But, Northwood would rally to claim the next three straight sets as the Timberwolves hit near or above .200 in each set (.286 in set two, .231 in set three, and .194 in set four).

Junior outside hitter Katie Edwards (Cedar Springs) recorded double-digit kills for the seventh time this fall as she posted a match-best 16 kills. Sophomore middle hitter Arielle Goodson (Grand Rapids/Central) hammered 11 kills on .526 hitting to go with three block assists. Junior middle hitter Kristy Gilchrist (Macomb/Anchor Bay) chipped in with nine kills and freshman outside hitter Ashley Huntey (Stanwood/Morley-Stanwood) had eight.

Senior setter-outside hitter Andrea Rich (New Baltimore/Anchor Bay) dished out 26 assists and turned in a match-leading 14 digs. Redshirt freshman libero Lisa Tobiczyk (Marysville) compiled 11 digs as the Bulldogs held a 51-50 digs edge over the Timberwolves.

Ferris State also held a slim 46-44 advantage in kills, but Northwood controlled play at the net with a team 11 blocks to the Bulldogs' four rejections.
