The Ferris State women's volleyball team evened its Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) record to 1-1 on the 2008 season as a result of recording a 3-2 league victory (31-29-25-13, 24-26, 20-25, 15-11) over Wayne State Saturday (Sept. 13) afternoon at the Matthaei Building in Detroit, Mich.

Ferris State (7-4; 1-1 GLIAC) stormed out winning the first two sets before Wayne State (5-5; 0-2 GLIAC) forced a deciding fifth set by winning the next two sets.

The Bulldogs, who hit .429 in the fifth set to the Warriors' .120 percentage, broke a 4-4 tie early in the set and led the rest of the way. The deciding set, which featured four ties and two lead changes, saw FSU outscore the hosts 8-3 during one stretch to take a 12-7 lead as the Bulldogs would never look back en route to the 2008 squad's initial conference win.

Ferris State received a solid performance from the trio of junior middle hitter Kristy Gilchrist (Macomb/Anchor Bay), junior outside hitter Katie Edwards (Cedar Springs), and sophomore middle hitter Arielle Goodson (Grand Rapids/Central). Gilchrist slammed a match-high 18 kills for a .500 hitting percentage to go with three block assists while Edwards registered 17 kills and Goodson generated 11 kills.

Senior setter-outside hitter Andrea Rich (New Baltimore/Anchor Bay) dished out a match-high 45 assists and was one of four Bulldogs to reach double figures in digs. She also served a career-high six aces in the contest as FSU totaled 13 as a team.

Redshirt freshman libero Lisa Tobiczyk (Marysville) paved the way defensively for Ferris State with a match-leading 20 digs. Freshman outside hitter Ashley Huntey (Stanwood/Morley-Stanwood) contributed a season-best 17 digs and sophomore defensive specialist Dana Ruttle (Reed City) added a career-high 11 digs.

The Bulldogs hit at a .162 clip for the match while the Warriors turned in a .171 attack percentage. FSU held a 65-to-50 advantage in kills and 74-to-66 in digs. Both teams racked up seven total team blocks apiece.
