Junior outside hitter Katie Edwards (Cedar Springs) and sophomore middle hitter Arielle Goodson (Grand Rapids/Central) combined for 23 kills to help the Ferris State women's volleyball team to a 25-11, 25-15, 25-18 sweep of Wheeling Jesuit (W.Va.) in a Ferris State Invitational match held Friday (Aug. 29) at the Ewigleben Sports Arena in Big Rapids, Mich.

The victory improves the Bulldogs' overall record to 3-0 for the 2008 season as the home team hit .375 for the match while holding the Cardinals (0-2 overall) to a .055 hitting percentage.

Katie Edwards paced Ferris State in kills for the second consecutive contest with a match-high 12 kills and Arielle Goodson recorded 11 total. Junior middle hitter Sarah Lark (Alma) and senior outside hitter-setter Andrea Rich (New Baltimore/Anchor Bay) both contributed with eight kills apiece.

FSU's setting tandem of Rich and senior Candice Marut (Pinconning) registered 22 and 21 assists, respectively. Freshman outside hitter Ashley Huntey (Stanwood/Morley-Stanwood) keyed a solid Ferris State defensive effort with a team-high 12 digs while redshirt freshman libero Lisa Tobiczyk (Marysville) had eight digs and Rich finished with seven digs.

Lark along with junior middle hitter Kristy Gilchrist (Macomb/Anchor Bay) both accumulated three block assists while Gilchrist also turned in a pair of block solos.

Ferris State posted a commanding 51-18 kills advantage and also claimed the defensive battles at 49-35 in digs and 7.0 to 3.5 in blocks in a match featuring just four tie scores and two lead changes.
