Junior Guard Named By GLIAC As North Division Weekly Award Recipient

Junior guard Josh Young (Ypsilanti) has been recognized by the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) as this week's (Dec. 8) GLIAC North Division Player of the Week for his performance in helping the Bulldogs win two of their initial three league contests last week.

Josh Young Young helped the Bulldogs open GLIAC play with a 2-1 mark by totaling 61 points, 21 rebounds, nine assists and five steals in the three contests. The 6-2 Young, who's in his first season at FSU after transferring from Kellogg Community College, netted a team-high 22 points with seven rebounds, three steals and two assists in Ferris' narrow league-opening setback at nationally ninth-ranked archrival Grand Valley State last Monday (Dec. 1). He then scored a game-high 30 points and pulled down 11 rebounds with four assists in a double-double effort as the Bulldogs topped Ashland 96-91 in league road action Thursday (Dec. 4).

Young helped FSU sweep its two-game trip to Ohio with nine points, three boards and three assists in Ferris' convincing 74-48 triumph over Tiffin on Saturday (Dec. 6). The Bulldog guard averaged 20.3 points, seven rebounds and three assists during the stretch.

The Ypsilanti product is the second Bulldog men's basketball player to attain the league's weekly award this season as sophomore forward/center Justin Keenan (Grand Rapids/Ottawa Hills) was previously recognized two weeks ago (Nov. 25).

Young is currently the Bulldogs' second-leading scorer (17.5 ppg.) and rebounder (6.5 rpg.) to date this campaign behind Keenan. He's scored 105 points and grabbed 39 rebounds while starting five of the first six games this season. In addition, Young has compiled 13 assists, nine steals and a blocked shot to go with 10 made three-pointers and a 21-of-27 (.778) showing from the free throw stripe. He's reached double-figure scoring in five of the six contests this year.

The Ferris State men’s basketball team returns home for a rare weekend doubleheader on back-to-back days this weekend. FSU hosts Hillsdale on Saturday, Dec. 13, at 3 p.m. (EST) before facing nationally number one-ranked Findlay Sunday, Dec. 14, at 4 p.m. (EST). Both games will take place in FSU's Jim Wink Arena and are the second game of a GLIAC men's and women's doubleheader at Big Rapids, Mich.

Both of this weekend's contests can be heard live locally on WBRN (1460 AM or 107.7 FM) with Jason DaDay handling the play-by-play duties. FSU will also provide a live audio/video pay-per-view webcast via B2 Networks along with live internet statistics for the game at www.ferris.edu/sports.
