The quarterfinal-round winners will advance to the GLIAC Tournament Semifinals/Finals set for Friday and Saturday, March 7-8, at the site of the highest remaining seed.

The winner of the GLIAC Women's Basketball Tournament receives an automatic bid into the NCAA Division II Great Lakes Regional Tournament slated to be held March 14-17 at a campus site to be determined.

Ferris has posted a 6-9 overall record in nine previous league women's basketball tournament appearances. FSU, which will be making its ninth-straight women's berth in the GLIAC Tournament, recorded a 91-79 home win over Lake Superior State in last year's GLIAC Tournament Quarterfinals (2/27/07) at Ferris' Jim Wink Arena in Big Rapids, Mich. The Bulldogs then suffered a 90-87 overtime setback versus Hillsdale in the GLIAC Tournament Semifinals (3/2/07) held at Erie, Pa. Ferris received an at-large berth into last year's NCAA-II Regional Tournament and went on to reach the NCAA-II Sweet Sixteen for the first time in school history.

The Bulldog women's team, seeded third in the North Division, enters postseason play with a 16-11 overall mark and placed tied for third in the GLIAC North Division with a 11-7 conference regular-season record. Northwood will be the North Division's second seed and tallied a 18-8 regular-season slate along with a 13-5 conference ledger this year. FSU earned the tiebreaker for the North Division's third seed over Grand Valley State by virtue of its split this seasons against divisional champion Michigan Tech.

The other quarterfinal round games include Wayne State (#4 seed South) at Hillsdale (#1 seed South), Ashland (#3 seed South) at Gannon (#2 seed South) along with Grand Valley State (#4 seed North) at Michigan Tech (#1 seed North). The WSU-Hillsdale game will take place Saturday at 1 p.m. (EST) with the GVSU-MTU game slated to begin at 2 p.m. (EST). GU will host Ashland starting at 5:30 p.m. (EST). The top three teams from each division plus the next two best overall finishers earned tournament bids with each division receiving four nods this season. Hillsdale is the top seed overall in the event and would host the semifinals/finals by winning in the quarterfinal round.

The Bulldogs registered a 68-63 triumph over the Timberwolves in this season's first meeting (Dec. 1) between the two teams at Midland, Mich. However, Northwood came back to post a 68-64 road triumph over FSU in the second meeting (Jan. 14) at Big Rapids, which snapped a 24-game series' losing streak to Ferris dating back to the 1995-96 campaign. Bulldog head coach Tracey Dorow currently owns a 19-1 career coaching mark against Northwood. The Timberwolves are guided by fourth-year head coach Jeff Curtis and received their first-ever NCAA-II Great Lakes Regional Ranking last week (Feb. 20) by coming in ninth in the poll. FSU was listed fourth in the region last week before dropping a pair of games to Saginaw Valley State and Grand Valley State.
