Senior Forward Chosen As Player Of The Week After Bulldog Sweep
For the third time this season, a Ferris State University women's basketball player has claimed Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) North Division Player of the Week accolades as senior forward/center Ashley Fleming (Posen/Rogers City) was honored Monday (Feb. 16) as this week's recipient after helping the Bulldogs to a league home sweep this past week.

Ashley Fleming Fleming posted back-to-back double-double (points and rebounds) performances in the contests as FSU improved to 9-13 overall and 7-11 in the GLIAC standings.

The 6-1 Fleming scored 15 points and grabbed a game-high 13 boards with three assists, two blocks and a steal while hitting six-of-nine (.667) shots in FSU's 67-62 upset victory over nationally 12th-ranked Michigan Tech last Thursday (Feb. 12) evening at FSU's Jim Wink Arena. She then scored a team-high tying 13 points and pulled down 11 boards with four assists and a blocked shot as FSU topped Northern Michigan 57-50 in overtime on Saturday (Feb. 14).

Fleming totaled 28 points, 24 rebounds, seven assists and three blocked shots in the two games combined. Saturday's win combined with NMU's loss put both teams in a three-way tie along with Findlay for seventh place in the league standings with four games left. The top eight teams at the end of the regular-season will advance to the GLIAC Postseason Tournament.

A two-time GLIAC All-Academic Team selection, Fleming joins fellow two fellow seniors in guard Teghan Thelen (Pewamo/Westphalia) and forward/center Jenna Guay (Escanaba) as a league player of the week honoree this year. Presently, Fleming ranks as FSU's second-leading scorer (8.8 ppg.) and top rebounder (5.2 rpg.) to date this season. She's started 19 of 21 contests and has posted a team-high 15 blocked shots.

In 87 career outings, Fleming has compiled 466 points with 266 rebounds. Her 43 career blocked shots ranks sixth on the school's all-time charts and her current .520 (180-346) career field goal percentage is also listed sixth on FSU's career leaders list. Fleming's 185 points and 109 rebounds this campaign are personal bests in her FSU career.

Ferris State will play its final two regular-season home contests at Wink Arena this week as the Bulldogs host Saginaw Valley State on Thursday, Feb. 19, with the league tipoff and “Pink Wave Night” encounter set for 6 p.m. (EST). The Bulldog men's and women's basketball teams and staff will wear special pink attire, including shoelaces and shooting shirts to help support breast cancer during the doubleheader.

FSU then takes on Lake Superior State in its annual “Senior Day” contest on Saturday, Feb. 21, starting at 1 p.m. (EST) in Big Rapids. Fleming and the rest of Ferris' senior class will be honored following their final home outings at Wink Arena on Saturday.

Tickets for both of this week's games will be available at the door starting one hour prior to tipoff.
