Senior Forward/Center Claims North Division Recognition For The Bulldogs
Senior forward/center Jenna Guay (Escanaba) of the Ferris State University women's basketball team was honored as this week's (Dec. 1) Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) North Division Player of the Week for her efforts in the Bulldogs' lone contest a week ago.

The announcement was made Monday afternoon by the league office and came before Ferris' league opener at archrival Grand Valley State the same evening.

Jenna Guay The 6-1 Guay tallied a team-high 18 points with five rebounds and two assists in the Bulldogs' 77-66 non-league road setback at regional foe Lewis (Ill.) last Tuesday (Nov. 25) in Romeoville, Ill. The 6-1 Guay was nine-of-14 (.643) from the floor in the loss, which came in FSU's lone outing of the week.

Following the announcement, Guay helped the Bulldog women's basketball squad to a 74-64 league-opening win Monday (Dec. 1) night over the rival Lakers in the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena at Allendale, Mich. She tallied four assists, three rebounds and two points while making her first start of the season against Grand Valley State.

This week's recognition marks the second time in her career Guay has claimed the league weekly award. Last year (2007-08), she was honored the first week of the season by the GLIAC for her performance in the season-opening Quincy (Ill.) Subway Tipoff Tourney held at Quincy, Ill.

Guay is also the second FSU women's player in three weeks this season to be recognized with the North Division honor as senior guard Teghan Thelen (Pewamo/Westphalia) was this year's first recipient of the award following the season-opening Kentucky Wesleyan Lady Panther Classic (Nov. 15-16).

Now in her fourth season with the Bulldogs, Guay has played in 89 career games and made 34 starts. She's tallied 451 career points and 326 rebounds to date while ranking among the school's all-time field goal percentage leaders (.504). Her 33 career blocked shots also is among the ten best career efforts in FSU history. Guay was the team's second-leading rebounder (4.0 rpg.) and fourth-leading scorer (6.0 ppg.) as a junior last season.

The Bulldog women's basketball team continues its season-opening road swing with a trip to Ohio this weekend. FSU opens the trip by taking on the Ashland Eagles Thursday (Dec. 4) with tipoff set for 5:30 p.m. (EST) inside AU's Kates Gymnasium at Ashland, Ohio.
