The Ferris State men's golf team has added prep first-team all-state selection Kurt Valley to its lineup.

Ferris State University men's golf head coach Brad Bedortha recently announced Kurt Valley (Bay City/Western) has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend and compete in men's golf at FSU starting with the 2006 fall season.

"We're fortunate to get a talented golfer like Kurt and I believe he can immediately help us," said Bedortha. "He's a hard-working individual with a lot of ability and should be a major contributor for our team in the seasons to come."

Valley, who earned prep Division I all-state first-team honors as a senior in 2005 at Bay City (Mich.) Western High School in Auburn, Mich., averaged a school single-season record 73.1 strokes per round as a member of head coach Troy Avreal's team. He claimed top individual medalist honors in six of Warriors' nine tournaments, including a first-place performance at districts. Valley was tabbed as the Saginaw Valley Conference's (SVC) Player of the Year in 2005 and also received first-team all-conference recognition during his senior season. He was also chosen as the 2005 Bay County Player of the Year and was named to the PowerBilt All-Tour team.

The 6-1, 175-pound Valley produced the lowest stroke average among high school golfers in Bay County, the Saginaw Valley Conference, and in District I for the 2005 season. He presently is participating in the U.S. Open Sectional Qualifier at Columbus, Ohio.

As a junior, Valley attained honorable mention all-state Division I honors and placed third in the 2004 Michigan High School State Finals at Michigan State University's Forest Akers West Golf Course in East Lansing, Mich. He averaged 76.5 strokes per round for the 2004 season while garnering first-place kudos in three tournaments.

Valley registered stroke averages of 78.1 during his sophomore year in 2003 and turned in a 79.5 stroke average as a freshman in the 2002 campaign. The four-year (2002-05) golf letterwinner also was a two-year starter on Western's junior varsity basketball team and then played two seasons on the Warriors' varsity hoop squad.

The son of LeRoy and Jane Valley of Bay City, Mich., Kurt plans to major in professional golf management at Ferris State.
