The Ferris State University men's golf team has been chosen to compete in the 2007 NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championship Central/Great Lakes Super Regionals May 7-9 at Joplin, Mo.

The Bulldogs, who will be making their fifth consecutive regional appearance, are among eight schools who will participate in the Great Lakes Region at the Central/Great Lakes Super Regional Tournament. The super regional is being held at the Twin Hills Golf and Country Club in Joplin with Missouri Southern State University hosting the event. Five individuals from non-qualifying Great Lakes Region teams were also selected to compete.

The five super regional tournaments encompass the current 10 regions. The top team from each region within the super regional and the top individual not with a team from each super regional (regardless of region) will advance to the 2007 NCAA-II National Championships on May 22-25 at Grand Valley State University's The Meadows Golf Course in Allendale, Mich. Ten additional teams will also earn berths to the national finals. These 10 teams will be determined based on the previous three-year average of top-10 finishes of a super regional at the finals.

For the 2007 championships, the additional super regional allotments are as follows: Atlantic/Southeast -- Three South/South Central -- Four West/Northwest -- Three.

All regional tourney participants will compete throughout the entire 72 holes of competition. In the team competition, the low four scores for each team will count in each day’s total score.

The Bulldogs, under eighth-year head coach Brad Bedortha, are coming off a fifth-place tying performance at the Great Lakes Regional Tournament III (April 21-22) in Alton, Ill. Ferris registered a two-round 559 (295-304=599) team score. The Bulldogs took fifth place at the 2006-07 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championships in Midland, Mich., with a three-round 897-stroke total.

Ferris State placed seventh with a three-round 902-stroke total at the 2006 NCAA-II Great Lakes Super Regional (May 1-3), which was held at the Prairie Bluff Golf Course in Lockport, Ill. The Bulldogs were the second seed going into the post-season tournament.

FSU's most recent regional tourney championship title was in 2003 (May 5-7) as the Bulldogs tallied an 895 three-round strokes total at the Silo Ridge Country Club in Bolivar, Mo. The Bulldogs advanced to the NCAA-II National Championships (May 20-23) in Sunriver, Ore., and claimed 15th place as a result of producing a 1,216 score in the 72-hole event.
