Bulldogs Win Their First Tourney This Fall With Strong Second-Round Showing

Jeff Carlson
Senior Jeff Carlson led FSU to its first tournament title this season with a fifth-place tying one-over par 145 score.
The Ferris State men's golf team needed a strong showing Monday (Sept. 25) to capture the team title at the NCAA Division II Great Lakes Region Tournament I and that's exactly what the Bulldogs did at the HawksHead Country Club in South Haven, Mich.

Ferris turned in a second-round best 290 score and concluded the 36-hole event with a season-best 584-stroke total (+8), which was six strokes better than second-place Bellarmine (590, +14). Indianapolis, Northern Kentucky and Saginaw Valley State all tied for third place as a result of shooting 591 team scores (+15) in the 23-team tourney field.

Senior Jeff Carlson guided Ferris to its first tournament championship this fall with a fifth-place tying 145 score (71-74=145, +1). Fellow senior Derek Radley, who made his season debut, fired a two-over par 146 (73-73=146) to tie for ninth place.

Freshman Kurt Valley and senior Brody Moreland each produced four-over par 148 scores. Valley (79-69=148) and Moreland (74-74=148) were among five individuals to finish tied for 18th place. Senior Kyle Mason turned in a 152 (76-76=152, +8) which tied him for 41st place.
