Matt Erickson The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has selected Ferris State University junior Matt Erickson (DePere, Wis.) as the GLIAC Men's Golf Athlete of the Week after he posted a pair of top-five finishes in FSU's two tournaments this past weekend (April 13-16). The announcement was made Tuesday (April 17) by the conference office.

Erickson led the Bulldogs to the team title at the Ashland Invitational (April 13-14) along with a seventh-place finish at the Findlay Outback Steakhouse Invitational (April 15-16) over the weekend. He captured medalist honors at the Ashland Invite after carding a two round score of 147 (72-75) in the two-day event held at the Ashland Country Club in Ashland, Ohio. Erickson won a playoff for the title after tying for first place with two Bulldog teammates in seniors Jeff Carlson (Holland/West Ottawa) and Kyle Mason (Mt. Pleasant). He then placed tied for fifth in the Findlay event after posting rounds of 75 and 78 for a 153 total on the par 72 course at the Findlay Country Club in Findlay, Ohio.

Erickson recorded his highest individual finish ever in winning the Ashland Invitational. He's presently compiled a 76.25 stroke average in eight rounds this campaign. His individual score of 72 in the opening round at Ashland represents his best 18-hole score to date this season. Last year (2005-06), Erickson posted a 78.50 stroke average in four rounds of action.

The 5-11 Erickson is the first FSU men's golf team member to claim the conference weekly award this campaign.

The Bulldogs next take part in the NCAA-II Great Lakes Regional Tournament III Saturday and Sunday, April 21-22, in Alton, Ill.
