Bulldogs Make Their 12th National Tournament Appearance In The Program's History

The Ferris State University men's golf team wrapped up the 45th annual NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championships (May 22-25) in Allendale, Mich., by finishing in 17th place with a 1,245 team score in the 72-hole tournament.

Senior Jeff Carlson concluded his four-year Ferris State career by leading the Bulldogs with a 43rd-place tying performance at the 2007 NCAA-II Men's Golf Championships.
The Bulldogs, who shot a final-round 307 (+23) score in Friday's (May 25) action, concluded the tourney at +109 (304-316-318-307=1,245) on the par 71, 6,992-yard The Meadows Golf Course. Ferris finished 13 strokes in front of 18th-place Fairmont State (W.Va.), which totaled a 1,247 team score (+111).

Barry (Fla.) claimed the national championship title by registering a 1,185-stroke total (+49), two shots better than South Carolina Upstate (1,187, +51) and Florida Southern (1,187, +51). Columbus State (Ga.) captured fourth place with a 1,190 score (+54) while Washburn (Kan.) rounded out the top five by carding a 1,196 (+60).

Senior Jeff Carlson was the Bulldogs' top finisher as registered a 43rd-place tying 305 score (75-74-78-78=305, +21) in his final college match.

Freshman Kurt Valley accumulated a 310-stroke total (74-81-81-74=310, +26) to claim a share of 63rd place. Senior Kyle Mason closed out his collegiate career by producing a 74th-place tying 313 score (78-82-77-76=313.

Senior Brody Moreland wound up in a 92nd-place tie after shooting a 320 score (77-80-83-80=320, +36) and junior Matt Erickson moved up into a two-way tie for 98th place as a result of generating a 327-stroke total (85-81-82-79=327, +43) among the 105 individual particpants.

Ferris State, which qualified for nationals after taking top team honors at the 2007 NCAA-II Great Lakes Super Regional (May 7-9) in Joplin, Mo., made its 12th NCAA-II Championship appearance in the program's history this spring and the Bulldogs' first since the 2003 season.
