MEN'S GOLF CONCLUDES GLIAC TOURNEY IN FIFTH PLACE
The Ferris State men's golf team wrapped up the 2008 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Men's Golf Championships Monday (Oct. 6) in fifth place with a three-round 871 team stroke total at the par 72, 6,860-yard Bay City (Mich.) Country Club.
The Bulldogs started out with scores of 289 and 293 in the opening two rounds before concluding the tourney with a final-round 289 score.
Grand Valley State won the GLIAC title, finishing the event at one-under par 863 to place one stroke ahead of runner-up Findlay (864, even). Wayne State place third with a two-over par 866 and Saginaw Valley State ended up with a fourth-place six-over par 870 team score.
The Bulldogs were led by junior Kurt Valley (Bay City/Western), who tied for fourth place with a 213-stroke total (70-71-72=213, -3). Junior Eric Lilleboe (Okemos/Lansing Catholic Central) carded a 215 (69-73-73=215, -1) to claim a share of sixth place.
Senior Kelbi Lee (Billings, Mont.) was among four individuals to tie for 16th place after shooting a 221 score (77-71-73=221, +5).
Rounding out the FSU scoring were sophomore Joe Brown (St. Ignace/LaSalle) and senior Derek Shelburne (Scotts/Vicksburg), who placed 31st and 36th respectively. Brown produced a 227-stroke total (73-78-76=227, +11) while Shelburne turned in a 231 (78-82-71=231, +15).
