Ferris Men's Golf The Ferris State men's golf opened its 2008-09 season by claiming fifth-place honors at the Northern Michigan Invitational in Marquette, Mich., this weekend (Sept. 6-7) with a three-round 875-stroke total.

The Bulldogs posted rounds of 293, 283, and 299 on the Marquette Golf Club course. Grand Valley State finished first among 13 participating teams with an 847 score while Indianapolis captured second place by firing an 858 team total.

Individually, junior Kurt Valley (Bay City/Western) finished runner up for medalist honors with a five-under par 208 score (69-72-67=208). Senior Derek Shelburne (Scotts/Vicksburg) carded a six-over par 220 (74-74-74=220) to tie for 19th place.

Sophomore Joe Brown (St. Ignace/LaSalle tied for 25th as a result of shooting an eight-over par 222 score (75-68-79=222).

Senior Kelbi Lee (Billings, Mont.) turned in a 227 (75-71-81=227) to tie three others for 36th place while freshman Greg Meisner (Waterford/Kettering) rounded out the Bulldogs' scoring with a 52nd-place tying 238 score (85-74-79=238).
