Nov. 3: Women Sixth, Men 18th At Regional Meet

The Ferris State University men's and women's cross country teams wrapped up their 2007 seasons by taking part in the NCAA Division II Great Lakes Regional Championships Saturday (Nov. 3) in Edwardsville, Ill.

The Bulldog women placed sixth overall in the field of 22 teams with 211 points in the event hosted by Southern Illinois-Edwardsville. Grand Valley State claimed the women's crown with 40 points followed by Wayne State (117) and Wisconsin-Parkside (130) in the top three.

Freshman Megan Josey topped the pack of Bulldog women's runners as she took 17th place overall in a time of 22:43.40 on the 6K course featuring 153 participants. WSU's Rachelle Malette won the women's individual title with a time of 21:12.33 overall.

Bulldog junior Mikinzie Stuart placed 21st overall (22:45.98), senior Margot McGlothlin was 44th (23:18.79), freshman Paige Onweller took 57th place (23:31.31) and junior Sharlene Orlowsky came in 74th overall (23:52.62) for FSU.

On the men's side, Ferris State finished 18th overall among the 22 competing teams with 460 points. GVSU also won the men's title with 20 points as Wayne State placed second (90) and Southern Indiana finished third (134).

The men's individual winner was GVSU's Nate Peck, who clocked 31:05.70 on the 10K course with 154 runners taking part in the men's competition. Peck won the men's regional crown for the fourth consecutive season.

FSU was paced by senior Ray Rollet's 46th-place effort (33:08.30). Junior Mike Mangieri was 81st (34:07.54), freshman Mike Wheat placed 97th (34:42.62), freshman Alex Best took 97th (35:27.63), junior Curtis Begley came in 124th (35:42.93) and freshman Darby Davila recorded a 127th place finish (35:54.71).

The top four men's and women's teams advanced to the NCAA-II National Championships Saturday, Nov. 17, on the campus of Missouri Southern State University in Joplin, Mo.

Oct. 20: FSU Women Finish Third, Men Sixth At GLIAC Championships

The Ferris State University men's and women's cross country teams took part in the annual Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championships, which were held Saturday (Oct. 20) at Pleasant Ridge Park in Fairview, Pa. The event was co-hosted by both Gannon University and Mercyhurst College.

The Bulldog women placed third overall in the league standings with the men's team coming in sixth overall.

Grand Valley State captured the women's team title with 20 points with Wayne State second (82 points) and FSU third (129 points) among the 13 competing teams.

Freshman Megan Josey led the Bulldog women in the 5K event by placing 11th in a time of 23:20.45 overall. Rachelle Malette of Wayne State won the women's individual championship by clocking 22:00.17 in a field of 140 runners.

Junior Mikinzie Stuart placed 16th (23:28.42), freshman Paige Onweller came in 43rd (24:33.87) and senior Margot McGlothlin finished 25th (23:53.03).

Junior Sharlene Orlowsky took 50th place (24:43.64), junior Jenelle Keinath was 92nd (26:13.23) while junior Jessica Olds recorded a 103rd-place performance (26:52.69). Freshman Nikki Wiers also competed for FSU and was 118th (27:30.28).

The Ferris State men's squad totaled 139 points in finishing sixth. GVSU won the men's division with 19 points, Wayne State came in second (81) and Ashland placed third (85). The men's division featured 12 competing teams.

Junior Jared Kelsh placed the men's team as he took sixth place overall (25:57.45) in the 8K race. GVSU's Nate Peck took first place (25:21.55) in the 145-runner field.

Senior Ray Rollet finished 19th (26:23.32), junior Mike Mangieri was 39th (27:19.87), junior Curtis Begley took 44th (27:33.00) and freshman Mike Wheat came in 45th (27:35.45).

Sophomore Darby Davila placed 89th (28:56.30), freshman Derek Childs finished 96th (29:07.33) and junior Dan Volk was 98th (29:12.94). Sophomore Brian Reynolds took 103rd place (29:25.24), senior Travis Sinke came in 105th (29:27.03) while freshman Alex Best registered a 110th place (29:39.93) showing. Senior Nate Penny wound up 120th (30:11.10) while freshman Grant Rollet rounded out the Bulldog lineup with a 130th place effort (30:40.36).

Ferris State next takes part in the NCAA Division II Great Lakes Regional Championships Saturday, Nov. 3, in Edwardsville, Ill. The meet will be hosted by Southern Illinois-Edwardsville.

Sept. 29: Bulldog Men First, Women Third In Chicago Event

The Ferris State University men's and women's cross country teams capped off a successful day of action in the 35th annual Sean Earl Loyola Lakefront Invitational held Saturday (Sept. 29) on Montrose Beach in Chicago, Ill.

The annual event featured 11 races from the elementary to collegiate divisions.

The Bulldog men's squad captured the Collegiate Maroon Division with 55 points. The field included 25 teams with Calvin placing second (76 points) and William Woods finishing third overall.

Bulldog junior Jared Kelsh won the men's individual title as he clocked 25:41 on the 8K course to finish ahead of the other 238 runners in the field.

Senior Ray Rollet came in sixth (26:26), freshman Mike Wheat placed 15th (26:49), junior Curtis Begley was 17th (26:58) and junior Mike Mangieri finished 21st (27:05). Freshman Alex Best took 45th place (27:50), freshman Derek Childs was 78th (28:54) and freshman Darby Davila placed 79th (28:54).

Bulldog sophomore Brian Reynolds took 90th place (29:05), junior Dan Volk came in 94th (29:14) and senior Nate Penny finished 110th (29:34). Freshman Grant Rollet wound up 138th (30:18) with senior Travis Sinke only one spot behind at 139th (30:19) in the field.

The Ferris women's squad also placed high in the team standings as the Bulldogs came in third overall with 112 points. Missouri Southern State won the women's division title with 32 points while Findlay took second place among the 21 competing teams with 101 points.

Junior Mikinzie Stuart led the Bulldogs as she placed fifth in the 286-runner field with a time of 18:57 on the 5K women's course.

Freshman Megan Josey placed 12th (19:14), senior Margot McGlothlin was 18th (19:26) and freshman Paige Onweller finished 35th (19:51). Junior Sharlene Orlowsky was 47th (20:12), junior Jenelle Keinath took 97th (21:16) and junior Jessica Olds came in 123rd (21:46). Freshman Nikki Wiers also competed for FSU and placed 164th (22:21).

The Bulldogs have elected not to take part in the previously scheduled Michigan Intercollegiate Championships on Friday (Oct. 5). Therefore, FSU's next action is slated for the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championships Saturday, Oct. 20, starting at 10 a.m. (EDT) in Erie, Pa.

Sept. 21: Bulldog Cross Country Teams Fare Well On Home Course

The Ferris State University men's and women's cross country teams found the home course to their liking in the 32nd-straight running of the Bulldog Invitational held Friday (Sept. 21) at FSU's Katke Golf Course in Big Rapids, Mich.

The Bulldog women's squad placed five runners among the top 15 finishers en route to a first-place effort in the eight-team women's collegiate division. The men's team had four competitors finish in the top nine as the Bulldogs placed second overall of eight teams.

Lansing Community College claimed the men's title in the 8K race by scoring 27 points, the Bulldogs had 36 points and Saginaw Valley State came in third with 93 points. In the women's 5K field, Ferris led the way with 45 points, SVSU took second (54 points) and Oakland Community College was third (76).

A high school division was also held for both boys and girls with Chippewa Hills and Cadillac earning the boys and girls titles, respectively. Big Rapids High School was third overall in the boys 5K division along with fifth in the girls 5K division.

Freshman Megan Josey led the Bulldog women's squad to the team championship by finishing seventh overall of 69 runners in a time of 20:17.38 on the home course. Monica Joyce of the Tortoise and Hare Running Club placed first overall (19:26.17) followed by SVSU's Nicole Schmidt (19:59.80).

FSU senior Margot McGlothlin finished ninth (20:41.92), junior Sharlene Orlowsky came in 11th (20:51.61) and junior Mikinzie Stuart placed 13th (20:56.81). Freshman Paige Onweller took 15th place (21:13.53), junior Jenelle Keinath was 18th (21:30.35) and freshman Jessica Olds finished 32nd (22:49.28). Freshman Nikki Wiers was 39th (23:37.51) in the field.

Junior Jared Kelsh once again paced the men's squad as he earned runner-up honors individually by clocking 26:08.55 on the course. Rex Kiptuli of Lansing CC won the men's division, which consisted of 93 runners, in a time of 26:02.44 overall.

Bulldog senior Ray Rollet was seventh (27:19.89), junior Curtis Begley took eighth place (27:27.27) and freshman Mike Wheat posted a ninth-place (27:30.79) performance. Freshman Alex Best was 15th (28:06.51), freshman Derek Childs placed 18th (28:28.27) and junior Mike Mangieri came in 23rd (28:42.35).

FSU senior Travis Sinke took 38th place (29:54.11), sophomore Brian Reynolds was 42nd (30:22.05) and senior Nate Penny placed 44th (30:26.37). Freshman Darby Davila finished 45th (30:28.53), freshman Grant Rollet was 49th (30:41.37) and junior Dan Volk compiled a 53rd-place (30:53.07) finish.

The Bulldogs will next compete in the annual Loyola Lakefront Invitational Saturday, Sept. 29, starting at 10 a.m. (EDT) in Chicago, Ill.

Sept. 7: Ferris Cross Country Takes Part In Northwood Open

The Ferris State University men's and women's cross country teams resumed action by taking part in the Northwood Open Friday (Sept. 7) afternoon in Midland, Mich. The non-scoring meet was held on the Betty Fisher Trails at Northwood University.

The Bulldog men were paced by junior Jared Kelsh, who claimed the men's individual title on the 8K course with a time of 26:10.38 in the event. The men's field included 66 runners.

Senior Ray Rollet also finished among the top five individuals as he came in fourth overall at 26:44.52 on Friday. Freshman Mike Wheat finished eighth (27:03.74), junior Curtis Begley was 14th overall (27:36.29) and freshman Derek Childs placed 20th (28:17.10).

Freshman Alex Best took 23rd place (28:27.11), junior Mike Mangieri placed 26th (28:45.58) and senior Nate Penny came in 37th (29:42.39). Senior Travis Sinke finished 39th (29:47.51), sophomore Brian Reynolds took 46th (30:33.60) and junior Dan Volk placed 49th (30:57.99). Freshman Grant Rollet was 51st (31:13.98) and freshman Darby Davila wound up 56th (32:34.23) for FSU.

On the women's side, freshman Megan Josey led the Bulldogs with a sixth-place overall finish (19:49.61) in the 5K event. Senior Margot McGlothlin took 10th place (20:04.48), freshman Paige Onweller came in 13th (20:32.07) and junior Sharlene Orlowsky placed 19th (21:08.14).

Freshman Sarah Creed was 23rd (21:31.55), junior Jenelle Keinath took 24th place (21:49.43) and freshman Nikki Wiers finished 26th (22:24.03). The women's field included 47 participants.

The Bulldogs are idle until Friday, Sept. 21, when they will host the annual Bulldog Invitational starting at 4 p.m. (EDT) on FSU's Katke Golf Course in Big Rapids, Mich.

Aug. 31: Ferris Cross Country Opens 2007 Season In Annual CMU Meet

The Ferris State University men's and women's cross country teams officially opened the 2007 campaign by taking part in the 22nd annual Central Michigan Jeff Drenth Invitational held Friday (Aug. 31) at University Park in Mount Pleasant, Mich.

In addition to the Bulldogs, the host Chippewas and Michigan State also took part in the season-opening non-team scoring event.

Junior Mikinzie Stuart paced the Bulldog women's team with a 23rd place overall finish in the 5K event. Stuart was clocked in 19:34 on the course. The field included 53 runners.

Senior Margot McGlothlin took 32nd place (20:03), freshman Megan Josey came in 34th (20:10), freshman Paige Onweller placed 36th (20:16) and junior Sharlene Orlowsky was 44th (20:58). Junior Jenelle Keinath came in 45th (21:11), freshman Nikki Wiers was 48th (21:34), freshman Sarah Creed placed 50th (21:56) and freshman Laura Shafer took 52nd place (23:55) for the women's squad.

Junior Jared Kelsh led the men's team with a runner-up effort. Kelsh clocked 15:18 in finishing two seconds behind Michigan State's Max Goldak (15:16) among the 45 men's runners in the 5K field.

Senior Ray Rollet took 18th place (15:57), junior Curtis Begley was 20th (16:05) and freshman Mike Wheat placed 24th (16:17) for FSU.

Freshman Alex Best was 32nd overall (16:38), freshman Derek Childs took 34th (16:49) and junior Mike Mangieri was 36th (16:55). Sophomore Matt Jozwiak finished 38th (17:12), freshman Darby Davila was 39th (17:43), senior Travis Sinke placed 40th (17:48), senior Nate Penny was 41st (17:57), sophomore Brian Reynolds placed 42nd (18:14) and freshman Grant Rollet came in 44th (18:24).

The Bulldogs will next take part in the Northwood Open Friday, Sept. 7, beginning at 4 p.m. (EDT) in Midland, Mich.
