North Georgia is second with 361 points and five first-place votes while Lock Haven picked up the other first-place vote to go with its 346 points.

Besides Ferris State, the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) is also represented in the national poll by Ashland, Wayne State, and Saginaw Valley State. Ashland, which hadn't been ranked in the previous poll, cracked the top 25 as the Eagles are 19th with 107 points. Wayne State dropped down to places from 19th to 21st and registered 76 points. Saginaw Valley State dropped out of the top 25 poll as the Cardinals are among others receiving votes after being listed 25th in last week's (April 22) rankings.

The NFCA Division II Top 25 Poll is voted on by 16 NCAA Division II head coaches with two representing each of the eight NCAA regions.

Ferris State presently sports a 32-6 overall record, which includes a second-place tying 18-4 GLIAC regular-season mark. The Bulldogs, under the direction of 12th-year head coach Keri Becker, concluded the regular season by prevailing in 11 of their last 13 contests.

FSU is in action this weekend (May 1-3) at the 2009 GLIAC Softball Championship Tournament in Midland, Mich. The Bulldogs begin first-round play this Friday (May 1) versus Northwood at 10 a.m. (EDT) in the double-elimination tournament. The GLIAC Tournament champion will receive an automatic berth in the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Tournament, slated to be held the following weekend (May 8-10) at a campus site to be determined.
