1997 Men's Tennis Review

The return of former FSU tennis standout Mike Haber to his alma mater was accomplished with aspirations of having the first-year head coach lead the Bulldogs to a conference crown -- a feat which Ferris accomplished an unprecedented 13 consecutive years from 1982-94. However, for the third straight season, Ferris finished runner-up to a solid Northwood club in the final conference standings.

The 1997 Bulldogs registered a 15-9 overall record while notching a second-place record of 7-1 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The Bulldogs utilized their home-court advantage by compiling an 8-1 record this spring, boosting their home record to 35-3 since 1992.

Senior Matt Davis had the squad's highest finish in individual singles competition at the conference tourney with a second-place showing at the number three position. In doubles action, Davis and senior Alex Weber combined for a runner-up finish at the number one flight while senior Nash Kulendran and junior Bryan McGinnis were second at number two. For the season, Weber had a team-leading 16-9 mark in singles play. The doubles duo of sophomore Jesse Hill and freshman John Veit totaled a team-best 16-11 record, including a 15-7 ledger at the number three doubles slot.
